Out of Network Benefits

If I do not offer services through your insurance provider, I will gladly provide you with the paperwork necessary for you to file a claim with your insurance carrier who may reimburse you for some, or all, of your fees. Services may be covered in full or part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please contact your insurance company to check your coverage of mental health benefits.

Some Considerations Before Using Health Insurance

Confidentiality is a primary consideration when deciding whether you wish to use insurance to pay for psychotherapy. Most people don’t know that if you use insurance to pay for mental health treatment, it gives your insurance company access to required written documentation about your care. Insurance carriers also require that a diagnosis be made in order for you to receive treatment. A diagnosis, while useful to inform or guide care, can become a label which creates a limiting belief about what can be achieved in therapy, and even what your therapy goals should be. Insurance carriers have taken on the role of deciding care standards and limit how often, the length of the session, and how many sessions you are allowed, regardless of what might best serve your needs. These limitations placed on the focus of your therapy or the frequency or length of sessions may not represent what best supports you and your needs. I am trained to make diagnoses if you decide a diagnosis would help you better understand your circumstances.

A final consideration is pre-existing conditions, which remain a very real concern. The health care debate is not over. Even if insurance carriers are not allowed to refuse to cover pre-existing conditions going forward, pre-existing mental health treatment can be grounds to, for example, deny life insurance coverage.

If you have insurance, but would prefer to self-pay, I am willing to consider adjusting my fee to reflect your negotiated insurance carrier’s standard rates for services. Please contact me to discuss your options.

Cash, check, major credit cards, Health Savings/Flex Accounts, and Paypal are accepted for payment. Payment is due in full at time of service.

Cancellation Policy

If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.

Sliding Fee Scale

Sliding fee scale is a discounted fee schedule, which is available to people when full payment poses a barrier to psychotherapy services. It is important to note that sliding fee slots are often filled quickly and I may have a wait list. If you wished to be placed on my waitlist or learn about my sliding fee scale options, please call me at 720-771-4157. I’m happy to answer questions and/or schedule a consultation with you.
